Skype, Vonage, Callwave, AT&T and other companies earn billions of $ on VoIP communications, and you can also take your piece of pie.

So what’s required to setup a VoIP company under your own brand name?

There are 2 main types of VoIP business you can start: wholesale and retail business.

Wholesale is easier to setup: you just need a server and stable softswitch with billing. The main principle of wholesale is to trade minutes in a bulk. You buy minutes at one price, sell at a higher and get your profit. Estimated budget to start this business is $3500-6000

Retail business providers work with End-Users (Calling cards, PC-to-phone, Device-to-Phone, Callback: ANI, DID, Web, SMS, PIN callback, Voicemail, call-forward, Callshop, Callcenter, IPTV etc.). For Retail business you need a server with a softswitch and flexible billing, Gateway or PRI provider to send calls to PTSN customers, Wholesale provider to send calls worldwide. Here the budget to start a company may vary, as you need to establish an office in the country/city you want to provide the services, employ the workers, make website, print cards, make a marketing plan to attract customers, etc, but the profit from each sold minute is much bigger than in wholesale business. Having a $10000 budget you may start a Retail business easily and grow on together with your business.
